The original Softwinds were formed in 1960 and have performed at dinner dances, resorts, casinos, festivals, car cruises, and other celebrations in Pittsburgh and the tri-state area. As they've been told by their fans, they do doo-wop and Motown “the way it should be” with a wide range of vocals and tight group harmonies. The Softwinds have performed with well-known groups such as the Skyliners, Marvelettes, and DelVikings. They were the opening act at the Mellon Arena for the Holiday Reunion Show with the Duprees, Tokens, Vogues, Planatones, and Little Anthony and the Imperials. The Softwinds perform tunes in a variety of styles, while remaining true to doo-wop. They build on progressive voices as they perform “At the Hop,” and classics like “Come Go With Me,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” and “In the Still of the Night.” Featuring a four-piece band as well as four vocalists, this group has the versatility to perform songs that became popular during the later doo-wop revival of the 60's, such as “Runaround Sue,” “Barbara Ann,” and “I Really Love You.” The original Softwinds recorded two 45’s on the HAC label. Then in 2008 the Softwinds released their first CD, “Let Us Turn Back the Years,” a collection of original songs and crowd favorites. Their more recent CD, “Oh What a Night,” features additional classics and original material. Join us at the Strand Theater at 7:30 PM on Saturday, July 14 for the Softwinds Concert to hear all those doo-wop sounds that you know and love.
